The problem
Good food dies quietly in the crisper drawer.
Nobody plans to waste the spinach. It just expires while everyone is busy deciding what's for dinner, and then it's takeout again.

Say it
Just talk. Sous does the rest.
Every reply is a real MCP tool call. Safety decisions (allergies, purchases) are made by deterministic code, never by the model.

How it works
One voice request. Real MCP all the way down.
Sous is a self-hosted MCP server. Alexa+ calls its typed tools over Streamable HTTP; every result carries a short spoken line plus an MCP App card for Echo Show.
- You speak. "Alexa, what's for dinner?" from across the kitchen, hands covered in flour.
- Alexa+ calls Sous over MCP. Streamable HTTP, spec 2025-11-25, typed tools with annotations and output schemas.
- Deterministic engines decide. Expiry ranking, the allergy guard and the cart token. The model never decides what's safe.
- Echo Show shows it. An MCP App card renders the result while Alexa speaks one short, voice-safe line.
What Sous does
A sous-chef that remembers, plans, shops and keeps everyone at the table safe.
Use-it-up planner
Ranks recipes by what expires first, so tonight's dinner rescues tomorrow's spinach.
meal_suggest
Allergy guard
A deterministic filter removes unsafe recipes, including AI-invented ones. Never left to the model.

Confirm-before-buy
Builds an Amazon Fresh cart (simulated) with a cart token. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.
shopping_checkout
Hands-free cook mode
Giant steps on Echo Show, "next" and "back" by voice, named timers that chime.

Household memory
Allergies, dislikes and pantry state persist across sessions and across everyone in the family.

Impact tracker
Dollars rescued, kilograms saved and CO2e avoided, week by week, with a yearly projection.
impact_report
Amazon Bedrock agent
A Converse tool-use loop routes speech to MCP tools. chef_improvise invents a recipe from leftovers, then the allergy guard checks it.
Converse API
Echo Show cards
Every result ships an MCP App: carousels, cook steps, carts and impact charts render as tappable cards.

Allergy emergency script
"Leo's lips are swelling" triggers a fixed, deterministic script: call 911, use the prescribed epinephrine. Checked before anything else, never generated.

Food safety, by the rules
USDA safe cooking temperatures, storage windows and leftover limits. Sous never says "it's safe"; past-date raw meat is always a throw-out.
